Breakfast with Scot is a Canadian comedy film, released in Canada in November 2007.<br />
Adapted from the novel by Tufts University professor Michael Downing, the film stars Tom Cavanagh as Eric McNally, a gay retired hockey player turned television sportscaster who lives with his partner Sam (Ben Shenkman), a sports lawyer. When Sam unexpectedly becomes the legal guardian of his brother's stepson Scot (Noah Bernett), their lives are turned upside down. Eric's unwillingness to become a parent eventually fades as Scot teaches Eric about accepting and loving your true self.<br />
The screenplay was adapted by Sean Reycraft from the book by Michael Downing, and the film was directed by Laurie Lynd. The film attracted significant press attention in 2006, when the National Hockey League and the Toronto Maple Leafs announced that they had approved the use of the team's logo and uniforms in the film.[1] The picture is the first gay-themed film ever to receive this approval from a professional sports league.[1][2]<br />
Breakfast With Scot premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2007.[citation needed] The film was released on DVD in Canada by Mongrel Media in March 2008.[citation needed] Breakfast With Scot was the closing night film at Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, on June 29, 2008.[citation needed] Breakfast With Scot was released in the U.S. by Regent Releasing in select cities from October 2008.[citation needed] Breakfast with Scot won the Globola Award for the best international movie at the Lesbisch-Schwule Filmtage Hamburg (Lesbian/Gay Movie Days) in October 2008.[3] Breakfast with Scot won the Team Family Feature Film award from the Directors Guild of Canada, November 2008.[citation needed]<br />
