Using the Latitude and Longitude system, this program explores the coordinate system we use for navigation around the world. Students will use Latitude and Longitude to find the remains of the Spanish Galleon Nuestra Senora de Atocha and will convert these coordinates to x-y coordinates. A second example uses the Guggenheim Museum to explore the properties of polar coordinates. The spiral shape of the museum can be seen in many places in nature. Students explore the relationship between the Fibonacci sequence, polar coordinates, the Golden Ratio and its relationship to the architecture of the Guggenheim.
