Cinderella is a well-known story of a beautiful orphaned girl who continues to dream despite criticism. Her dreams eventually come true. Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale is one of many adaptations of this classic story that focuses on music. In the movie, Elle Daniels dreams of being a singer. She has even scored a music audition. However, her parents die in a plane crash while coming over to watch her audition. Her uncle Allen allows her to live with him and gives her a job as an intern at his record company. Elle then gives up all hope of becoming a singer in order to put up with the Sensation trio, the record company's biggest hit.
All of this changes when a famous pop star asks for someone different to perform a duet with him. He is assigned to sing with a famous British singer named Kandi Kane. When he hears Elle's voice, however, he thinks she is Kandi Kane. After Elle disappears, the pop singer must go on a mission to locate whose voice he heard before he has to perform.
