Into the Fire is a 2005 action movie directed by Michael Phelan. The film stars Sean Patrick Flanery, Melina Kanakaredes, and JoBeth Williams. The movie revolves around an ambitious young journalist, Dana Mulcahey, played by Kanakaredes, who is assigned a high-risk mission to investigate a dangerous neo-Nazi group that is running a lucrative and massive gun trafficking operation.

Mulcahey persuades former Navy SEAL Patrick Brody (Flanery) to help her uncover the dark secrets of the extremist group. Together, they start infiltrating the organization with the hope of getting close to its charismatic leader, Anders Breivik. Breivik is played by talented Welsh actor Cas Anvar, who delivers a riveting performance as the misguided, hate-spewing demagogue who thinks that he is a modern-day Odin.

The duo's infiltration tactics quickly draw the attention of Breivik, who becomes intrigued by the young journalist's persistence and tenacity. He decides to initiate her into the group, hoping that she will become a loyal follower, and begin a campaign to make her assimilate into the organization.

As Mulcahey advances deep into the neo-Nazi world, it becomes clear that she is starting to lose herself in the lies, deceit, and brutality of the outfit. Brody, on the other hand, becomes increasingly concerned about her safety and grows more desperate to get her out. All this sets the stage for a climactic showdown between the two sides as Mulcahey has to choose whether to follow the extremist path or stand up to it.

Into the Fire is a dark, suspenseful thriller that tackles themes of extremism, racism, and journalistic ethics. The movie's cinematography is exceptional, with stunning camera work that captures both the adrenaline of the chase scenes and the nuance of the character development. The filmmakers also do a great job highlighting the psychological war between Breivik and Mulcahey, with the latter gradually becoming more conflicted as she probes deeper and deeper into the neo-Nazi underworld and gains first-hand experience of the racism and violence it embodies.

Flanery nails his part as the former Navy SEAL who serves as Kanakaredes' ally and protector, and the two actors have excellent chemistry that makes their relationship feel authentic and engaging. JoBeth Williams, who plays Mulcahey's editor, also gives a solid and understated role that adds a layer of depth to the film's narrative.

Another standout feature of Into the Fire is its musical score, which is composed by Emmy-winning composer Lawrence Shragge. Shragge's haunting and stirring music underscores the movie's themes of power, fear, and manipulation and gives its high-tension scenes an extra dose of drama.

Overall, Into the Fire is an engaging and well-paced film that combines action with drama to create a thought-provoking and memorable experience. While it is not without its flaws, the movie's strong performances, superb direction, and compelling storyline more than make up for any shortcomings. It stands out as an excellent entry in the action-thriller genre and is a must-watch for fans of the genre seeking a unique and original story.

Into the Fire is a 2004 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 36 minutes. It has received poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.1 and a MetaScore of 19.
