It has been getting a little ho-hum in the past few decades because of the renovations to buildings and the entry of the middle-class lifestyle. Malcolm wants the old New York back and begins a crime wave with the hopes that it will bring back some of those who are struggling to make ends meet, and get rid of the whitewashed, wealthier class of people. He wants people to stand up and pay attention, but no one really cares.
