As the third season of the medical drama House continues, episode 18, titled "Airborne," introduces a serious illness that breaks out among passengers on a flight to New York City. The episode begins with an air traffic controller in New York seeing that one of the planes in the vicinity has fallen off the radar. As the only plane missing, the controller begins to worry about the worst as the rescue teams are sent to find the plane.

Meanwhile, House (played by Hugh Laurie) and his team are not having a great day either. They are already in a foul mood when a patient in their care dies. House has already diagnosed the patient with cancer, but the man's family refuses to believe him. After the patient's death, House and his team learn that their next patient is on the flight that is missing.

The team heads to the airport, where they meet up with an epidemiologist from the CDC. She gives House and his team strict orders to get on the plane and examine the patient who is sick with the possible SARS-like virus. The plane has been in the air for hours, and the passengers have already been exposed to the virus.

Several members of the cast are on the flight, with House, Dr. Wilson, and Dr. Cameron all aboard. They have to don protective gear before they enter the cabin to examine the sick passenger. However, as they are examining the sick patient, other passengers begin to present with symptoms of the virus.

House and the team are forced to isolate the sick patients while they try to figure out what the virus could be. The fact that the virus spreads so quickly results in a claustrophobic atmosphere, with the characters all trapped inside the plane, wondering if they will survive.

As the diagnosis continues, the team has to consider various possibilities, all of which lead to dead ends. They also have to deal with significant unforeseen issues, such as a power failure and a potential deadly cargo on board. Eventually, House and his team come up with a potential diagnosis, and the action moves into high gear.

As the situation inside the plane starts to spiral out of control, House and his team realize that they need to get the plane on the ground before it's too late. They work closely with the CDC and the airline to land the plane in an isolated part of the airport.

Once the plane is on the ground, House and his team can focus on finding a cure for the virus. It becomes a race against the clock to see if they can come up with an antidote in time to save those infected. There are tense moments and panic among the passengers as the medical professionals work to find the cure.

Throughout the experience, House's wit and analytical skills are on show, providing moments of both humor and tension. The doctors' relationships are also challenged as they face the unpredictability of the situation.

In the end, the episode delivers a satisfying conclusion, with some of the passengers surviving and the team having done their job. The experience, however, leaves the characters questioning their own mortality and how well they would cope with such a terrifying situation.

"Airborne" is a masterfully crafted and intensely gripping episode that showcases the series' ability to combine medical suspense with character development. House fans will not be disappointed with this episode, which stands out as one of the most memorable in the show's history.
