Sega is a father and gold miner who was raised in the old Japanese traditions during a time when Japan controlled his Taiwanese village. His son, Wien Jian, is educated and has great devotion to his largely Taiwanese culture. Their different views on life in the region becomes a great conflict between father and son. Further complicating matters is Sega's nagging wife who has spent a lifetime being frustrated by the family's poverty and her husband's obsession with the Japanese culture. In order for this family to come together, they are going to have to overcome years of fundamental differences.
