Watch An American Girl: McKenna Shoots for the Stars

An inspiring and heartwarming story for the entire family about an all star gymnast who appears to have everything going in her favor when her life literally takes a tumble. McKenna Brooks is training and planning on being a part of the regional competitive gymnastics team but suddenly realizes she is falling behind in school. Despite pleading with her parents that she can raise her grades on her own she still finds herself struggling to keep up. As important as gymnastics is for her, she realizes that her grades and health are equally as important. With her parents insistence and the recommendations of one of her teachers she begins working with a tutor but is embarrassed and determined to keep it a secret from her friends. To make matters worse the tutor is not what you would stereotypically consider a tutor. As McKenna continues to try and keep this secret her friends are getting the feeling she may be hiding something. She realizes how quickly also that her friends can come and go. On top of needing a tutor, her friends being frustrated with her, teetering grades, and constantly trying to hide it, a bad fall at the gym seems to nearly knock her literally out of bounds. With a broken ankle and no other choice but to take a break from her sport, McKenna focuses on her schoolwork while learning also how important friendships, new friends, and family are while she is doing both physical and mental healing. McKenna needs to focus on her strengths to overcome her weaknesses and with the help of her family and true friends, find a way to believe in herself and become strong and whole again. In the end she realizes who the real stars in her life really are.
