Beast is a 2017 British psychological thriller that follows the story of a troubled young woman, Moll, who lives on the isolated island of Jersey. Moll, portrayed by Jessie Buckley, experiences a tumultuous past which includes a difficult relationship with her family, a history of self-harm, and being accused of causing the death of a schoolmate. She works as a tour guide but feels trapped by her mundane life, unable to break free from the island and her overbearing mother.

One night, Moll meets the enigmatic Pascal (Johnny Flynn) at a nightclub, and they quickly connect. Pascal, a rugged and mysterious outsider, ignites a fire in Moll, and they embark on an intense relationship. However, as their passion deepens, the island is rocked by a series of brutal murders, which leads to a manhunt by the police.

Moll's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, and her family's suspicions about Pascal grow. Even as more information about the murders and Pascal's background comes to light, Moll finds it challenging to break away from him. As the story unfolds, the audience can't help but wonder whether Pascal is the murderer, and we continue to question whether Moll is a victim, an accomplice or just hopelessly in love.

Beast is a dark and gripping thriller, with an exceptional cast and a hauntingly beautiful setting. The film's standout, Jessie Buckley, delivers a sensational performance as Moll, fully embodying the character's complexity and inner turmoil. Geraldine James shines as Moll's controlling mother, and Johnny Flynn brings a sense of danger and unpredictability to the role of Pascal.

The film features stunning cinematography by Benjamin Kracun, capturing the raw and rugged beauty of the island, as well as the claustrophobic atmosphere of Moll's life. Director Michael Pearce creates a sense of tension and unease from the opening scenes, building suspense and keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

Overall, Beast is a tense and gripping thriller that explores the lines between love and obsession, and the lengths we are willing to go to for those we care about. With superb performances and a gripping storyline, this is a film that will keep viewers guessing until the very end.

Beast is a 2018 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 46 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.8 and a MetaScore of 74.
