Being Charlie is a 2016 film drama centering on a young man's battle with drug addiction. Eighteen year-old Charlie Mills played by Nick Robinson has run away from yet another drug rehab facility not being able to kick the habit. When Charlie returns home he find that his once actor father is not only running for Governor of California but that he has staged an intervention for his son. Not wanting negative publicity surrounding his political race Charlie's father wants his son back in rehab as soon as possible. Realizing that arguing was futile Charlie agree to yet another rehab facility. However, this time upon entering he meets up with Eva a fellow drug addict. The two strike up a friendship that starts to turn into something more The question now is will their love be enough to help them get off drugs once and for all? As the film illustrates there are no easy fixes when it comes to drug addiction, and perhaps even the power of love isn't enough to conquer it. Being Charlie first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2015. It would than be given limited release to movie theaters at the beginning of 2016.
