Watch This Is Spinal Tap
- 1 hr 22 min
The granddaddy of all mockumentaries, this is a must see for any fan of the genre. Brilliantly written, starring and with songs by Rob Reiner, Harry Shearer, Christopher Guest and Michael McKean, the film follows the hilarious parody exploits of the British (and entirely fake) heavy metal band "Spinal Tap." A comedic and sometimes too accurate satire of the music industry and the metal bands of the 1970s and 80s, the band consists of David St. Hubbins (McKean) and Nigel Tufnel (Guest), childhood friends who began their music careers in the 1960s as "The Originals" (a very significant nod to The Beetles and The Rolling Stones). A soft rock rhythm and blues inspired period is followed by a hippie period and then moves on to the commercially successful heavy metal period that the current tour of the band encompasses. They are of course accompanied by a series of keyboardists, drummers and bassists that all meet with freak accidents (ala Keith Moon and many others). Through band disputes, bad venues, prop disappointments and malfunctions as well as one of the band member's own Yoko Ono style girlfriend there are plenty of laughs to be had.
