"Harry Caul is an invader of privacy. The best in the business."

Academy Award-nominated and the star of the 1974 Cannes Film Festival, The Conversation (1974) is a classic film about a man who struggles with the morality of noninterference even as he struggles with his own introversion. Harry Caul is a meticulous professional, a leading expert in the field of surveillance who is himself incredibly private, bordering on paranoid. Without friends, without family, for Harry Caul his job is his life, and "don't get involved" is his mantra. But when he is hired by a shady corporation to record the conversation held by a pair of young lovers, he suffers a pang of conscience when it seems that his recording may get them killed.

At the same time, Harry begins to suspect that he himself is being watched, and grows ever more paranoid. Events escalate in both his professional and private life, and finally collide in a startling climax that is as surprising as it is inevitable.
