This motion picture takes a deep look into the life of South African poet, Ingrid Jonker. From childhood, Ingrid is faced with extreme hardships. After the death of her mother, Ingrid and her sister are soon taken into the custody of their minister father. Her father treats her almost like she is a stranger and has meaning in his life. It is the time of great racial segregation in South Africa, and she is on the side of unity, to the great disapproval of many including her father. Believing in her poetry, Ingrid continues to write controversial works of art regarding the political status of her country.
