Al Fountain is an electrical engineer who has hit middle age and finds himself in a rut. He doesn't particularly enjoy his job, especially the dull sense of routine, and he longs to experience the freedom and joy that he felt as a child. In an effort to recapture that feeling, he decides to go to the lake where he often went with his family when he was a boy. In the process, he meets a free-spirited young man named Kid, and he is more helpful than any lake could be in getting him to rediscover his sense of wonder.
