Chained is a 2012 psychological horror thriller directed by Jennifer Lynch and starring Vincent D'Onofrio, Eamon Farren, and Julia Ormond. The film follows the story of Bob, a serial killer who abducts young women and chains them up in his basement. One day, he abducts a woman and her young son, Tim, and after murdering the mother, decides to keep Tim as his protégé.
The film begins with Bob, a taxi driver, picking up a young woman named Sarah who is on her way home from a party. During the ride, Bob drugs her and takes her to his basement, where she wakes up chained to a wall. Bob explains to her that he has been doing this for years and that he intends to keep her hostage until she dies or until she becomes his "perfect" partner in crime.
Days turn into weeks, and Sarah becomes emaciated and traumatized. Bob repeatedly rapes her and tortures her until she is unable to fight back. The only contact she has is with Bob's son Tim, who Bob has been grooming to become his accomplice since he was young. Tim is allowed to bring Sarah food and even talks to her, but he is just as disturbed as his father, and he eventually stops visiting her.
Eventually, Bob decides to kill Sarah and hunt for his next victim. However, when he goes to kill her, Sarah fights back and kills him in self-defense. Tim walks in on the scene and is left with the choice of either killing Sarah or joining her in escaping.
The rest of the film follows Tim and Sarah's relationship as they try to rebuild their lives. Tim is unsure of what to do, but Sarah tries to convince him that he is not like his father and that he can choose his own path in life. Tim struggles with his upbringing and the realization that he was complicit in his father's crimes, even if he never actively participated.
Overall, Chained is a disturbing and intense horror film that explores the twisted relationship between a serial killer and his accomplice. The film is not for the faint of heart, as it depicts graphic violence and sexual assault. However, it also raises important questions about whether individuals are born evil or if they are shaped by their environment. The acting in the film is superb, particularly from Vincent D'Onofrio, who delivers a truly chilling performance as Bob. The film ultimately leaves the audience with a sense of unease and lingering questions about the nature of evil.
Chained is a 2011 action movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 37 minutes.
