Ruth Stoops is a poor, drug-addicted woman who finds herself in the middle of an abortion rights tug of war after accidentally getting pregnant. She already has four children who she has lost custody of because of her terrible lifestyle and when she's arrested for using drugs she finds out about her pregnancy. The judge in her case offers her a softer sentence if she agrees to an abortion, sparking a huge controversy when some anti-abortion protesters get wind of it. Soon Ruth finds her being passed back and forth as a pawn between the two sides of the debate.
