When his only friend dies, he takes up residence in an old train depot in a small rural town. Fin, who was born with dwarfism, is angry and just wants to be left alone. Soon though Fin’s quiet life is interrupted by his neighbors. Much to his own reluctance he finds himself being pulled into their lives. Olivia, played by Patricia Clarkson, is a middle aged artist who is struggling with depression and the ending of her marriage. When Joe (Bobby Cannavale), an overly friendly hot dog vendor, ingratiates himself into Fin’s life, Fin finds himself involved with Olivia and Joe and the three form a close knit bond. Although the three friends have led completely different lives, they find common ground in their isolation and solitude. Fin tries to push Olivia and Joe away at first but Joe is especially persistent. He also develops a bond with Cleo, a young African American girl who also has an interest in trains. Fin eventually gives in and is able to open himself up to his new friends and realize that relationships don't always have to be difficult.
