This is the story of an eccentric famous heiress, Abigail Clayton. When she becomes 18 and inherits the vastness of her industrialist father's estate, she retreats from the public. She takes up residence in an upscale Manhattan, NY apartment building. She has literally dropped out of society and only communicates with two people, the building's doorman, and a long time family friend Dr. Fontaine, who is her sole contact to the outside world that she is now terrified of. She develops acute agoraphobia, making life outside of her apartment almost impossible. When an elderly tenant that lives next door to her dies, her life changes.
