Copperhead is based on the novel by Harold Frederic. This movie examines the life of Abner Beech, played by Billy Campbell, a farmer who lives in upstate New York. This is a Civil War story not played out on the historic battlefields that we have all learned about in school. This story is about a man who says what he thinks during wartime regardless of the opinions held by his government and others in his community. His views are not popular and are not well received by those that live around him. His community is passionately opposed to what Abner Beech has to say and about his right to say it during wartime.

Copperhead is a cautionary tale about the price of war and the point is not about money. It is about human beings, families and loved ones, torn asunder by war and by differing opinions about war. Copperhead is directed by Ron Maxwell.

Copperhead is a 2013 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 34.
