This movie is about a girl who has always been daddy's little girl. Her mother left them when she was young, but the girl remembered her mother's love for making music and followed in her footsteps. Violet chose to move to New York to try to get her music heard by one of the agencies out there. Her father was against this. So was her best friend. When she gets there, she finds that New York is a rough city. She has a run down apartment. So, she goes to record her songs and takes them around. She meets this guy who acts like he's the owner of some club, but really he is just a cook there. She hands him her tape, but when she finds who he really is she leaves and continues trying to give agencies the tapes, but they tell her that they have to be copyrighted first and such before they will consider them. She's striking out. In the meantime, the only place she can record is on her rooftop. She found her apartment was broken into and the money her friend had stashed away was stolen as well. She was forced to get a job. After going into a diner, she overheard about the Coyote Ugly girls and goes to find out more about them. She goes to the bar one day and the owner tells her she's giving her a shot. Some of the original girls don't like this. She starts dating the guy from the club after she hoses the fire marshal and has to make a quick buck where she concocts a scheme all of her own. From there, things weren't going that bad. After proving to the boss she was worthy she stayed around, but the bar isn't something her father would be part of. She just needs this to pay for new equipment and bills. Violet's father learns of what she is doing when they have a section in the paper with her picture on the bar table. He doesn't talk to her until he's had an accident. While all this is going on, she's been trying to work on singing in front of a group. She gets the perfect chance, but work calls. Her boyfriend gets furious that she didn't show up and starts a fight that ruins things for her. She loses the guy and work until one day she gets a call that she is to perform her song. She does so after some hesitancy and then from there, good luck follows.
