Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead is a comedy film released in 1991 directed by Stephen Herek. The movie stars Christina Applegate as a seventeen-year-old girl named Sue Ellen Crandell, who along with her four siblings has to deal with the death of their babysitter. After hearing that their mom will be out of town for the summer, Sue Ellen convinces her mother to let her be in charge of the kids. However, the babysitter they hired passes away just a few hours into their mom’s trip, leaving them without supervision.

Sue Ellen and her siblings, who range from college-aged to preschoolers, are left alone to deal with the situation. At first, Sue Ellen tries to keep everything together and takes charge of the house. However, she soon discovers that their problems go beyond their lack of a babysitter. The family is struggling to make ends meet, and they face mounting bills along with the enormous task of keeping the house in order. Without adult supervision, Sue Ellen realizes she has to step up and find a way to make money and take care of her siblings.

Sue Ellen comes up with an idea to forge her way into the workforce. She creates a fake resume and lands a job at a trendy fashion company. Sue Ellen’s plan seems perfect, but she soon realizes she's over her head. She has no experience or knowledge of the fashion industry, and her boss is a tyrant. Sue Ellen’s only help comes from her co-workers, played by Joanna Cassidy and John Getz.

Throughout the movie, Sue Ellen tries to make it in her job while keeping her siblings out of trouble. She battles her boss, a rival teenager, and her own insecurities. In the meantime, her siblings also try to help with the situation. Her younger brother, Kenny, is obsessed with horror movies and wants to become the next Tom Savini. He does, in fact, create some gory and realistic special effects to help Sue Ellen out. Her older brother, Zach, tries to be the responsible one, but he falls in love with one of Sue Ellen's coworkers, which creates some drama.

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead is a classic coming of age story. Sue Ellen learns what it means to be an adult and the responsibilities that come with it. She has to navigate the complexities of work and family as she tries to figure out who she is and what she wants to do with her life. At the same time, she forges relationships with her coworkers and proves to them and herself that she is more than just a kid.

The movie is filled with classic 90s fashion, music, and style. From Sue Ellen’s neon and funky wardrobe to the big hair and shoulder pads worn by her coworkers, the movie is a nostalgic trip to the era where fashion was at its peak.

The film is also a hilarious comedy that will make you laugh out loud. Christina Applegate delivers a fantastic performance, showcasing her acting chops and natural comedic talent. The film is full of one-liners and physical comedy that will have you belly laughing. Joanna Cassidy's performance as Rose Lindsey, one of Sue Ellen’s coworkers, is also fantastic. She delivers some classic lines, including “Hey, I'm right on top of that, Rose!”

Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead is a fun and entertaining comedy that is perfect for a movie night with friends or family. The film does an excellent job of balancing humor with heart and delivers an overarching message of family and self-discovery.
