Starring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Anniston this American-comedy produced in 2001 was directed by Stephen Herek. The story follows the life of Chris "Izzy" Cole, a tribute band singer who rises to be the lead vocalist of his favorite band. This movie recognizes the story of Tim "Ripper" Owens, singer in a tribute band to Judas Priest, as he was picked to fill the spot of singer Rob Halford when he left Judas Priest. Chris Cole is a huge fan of his favorite band Steel Dragon and tributes to them in his cover band Blood Pollution (taken from a Steel Dragon song). Chris is a photocopier technician by day and a rocker by night with his closest pals. However, a conflict within Steel Dragon leads to Bobby Beers (Jason Flemyng), the old lead singer, to leave and leads the members of Steel Dragon to search for a new singer. Later on, Chris receives a call from the founder of Steel Dragon Kirk Cuddy (Dominic West)and is blown away when he is told he should try out to become the new singer. Aided by his manager and girlfriend Emily (Jennifer Anniston) he tries out for the role and is accepted. The new lifestyle proves too much for Chris and his relationship is strained with Emily causing a breakup after an outbreak of cheating, drugs, and alcohol. Chris attempts to bring up his own ideas to the band to approach a new direction, but is shut down and told to follow their lead. He leaves the band and begins his own coffee shop band with his old band mate Rob and meets Emily once more.
