This classic animated film centers around a young elephant who is born into a family of circus elephants named the Jumbo family. Because he is born with exceptionally large ears and looks different from the other elephants, this young elephant named Jumbo Jr. is nicknamed 'Dumbo" by some of the other circus animals. The film is rated 'G' for general audiences and is suitable for all ages. "Dumbo" features high quality animation with lots of special effects that are accompanied by a full orchestral soundtrack. The movie was produced by Walt Disney and was directed by Ben Sharpsteen. In this film Dumbo is ridiculed by some of the other circus animals but a circus mouse named Timothy becomes Dumbo's friend and helps him in several ways. After Dumbo's mother gets locked up for protecting her son from some bullies Dumbo is left on his own. At that point Timothy the mouse decides to take Dumbo under his wing, providing guidance and protection. Dumbo becomes a circus clown and after several mishaps discovers that he can fly through the air by flapping his giant ears. When he loses a feather that he thought enabled him to fly Dumbo learns that he was really flying through his own ability and confidence. The film features a happy ending wherein Dumbo is accepted for who he is. Animation highlights of this movie include a parade made up of pink elephants and a congregation of crows who help Dumbo to perfect his flying skills. Among the actors and actresses who provide voiceover work in "Dumbo" are Verna Felton, Billy Bletcher, Herman Bing, James Baskett, Noreen Gammill, Sterling Holloway and Edward Brophy. The film is narrated by John McLeish. "Dumbo" is shorter in length than many other Disney movies with a running time of 64 minutes.
