Elderly Latin American farmer Don Plucarto and his musical family have joined a group of rural insurgents in fighting a government that tortures, rapes and murders them. When the rebels are cut off from their supply of ammunition hidden in a local field, Plucarto hatches an ingenious plot to resupply his countrymen by using his violin and an enemy officer's love of music.
