Anything written and directed by Carl Reiner has to be funny and this 1967 comedy is no exception. This was Reiner's first time directing and what better material than his own autobiography. Of course, the names of the characters are different, with the main character being just an everyday New Yorker trying to get by. David Kolowitz works in a machine shop but has dreams of making it as an actor. He finally joins an Off-Broadway theater and acquires a stage name. Though he lacks some natural talent, he perseveres and on opening night impresses with his quirky sense of humor.
