Widely considered to be Alfred Hitchcock's last truly great feature film before his passing, Frenzy is based on the novel Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Arthur La Bern and stars Jon Finch, Alec McCowen and Barry Foster. There is a mad killer in Covent Garden, London's fruit and veg market, raping then strangling his female victims with neckties, and he is Robert Rusk (Foster), a fruit seller. As is typical of most of Hitchcock's films we know the identity of the murderer, and the suspense of Frenzy is to be derived from the struggle of the hapless innocent accused of the crime, in this case, Rusk's friend Richard Blaney (Finch). We find that the guilt has been erroneously shifted to Blaney because Rusk used to patronize Blaney's ex-wife Brenda's dating service until he was blacklisted for roughing up his dates.
