To Catch a Thief
- 1 hr 46 min
Alfred Hitchcock directed this film, which was released during 1955. To Catch A Thief stars Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in a romantic thriller. Grant plays John Robbie, who is a reformed cat burglar. Though he has tried to change his ways, he soon finds himself entangled in a new set of crimes. The film begins with a string of crimes that will closely resemble the way that he had operated in the past. Though the police suspect Robbie of doing these crimes, they don't have any means of connecting him to the crimes. This brings in a dramatic effect to the film, because Robbie soon becomes entangled in other situations. It also meshes him with Kelly's character, who is similarly involved. The two will try to escape from the situation together as the plot unfolds. When the film was released, it proved to be both a critical and commercial success. It would go on to win an Academy Award for best cinematography. It had a budget of $2.5 million and would go on to earn $8.75 million throughout some of its extended releases. The film benefits from the performance of its stars, as well as the directorial acumen of Hitchcock.
