Fugitive Pieces is the story of a middled-aged Polish Jew, Jakob Beer, and the struggles he endured and the events that unfolded during his life as told through flashbacks. During World War II, Jakob's parents were killed by Nazis who also took his sister Bella from him. He was found by a Greek archaeologist who then smuggled him out of Poland and adopted him. Over time, they moved to Canada and Jakob grew up wondering what happened to Bella and trying to understand his relationships with others, including a neighboring Jewish family who have a terrible past of their own.
