Deja Vu is a 2006 crime action thriller film directed by Tony Scott. The film begins in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday during Mardi Gras where a ferry carrying U.S. Navy sailors and their families, approximately 543 people, explodes. People on fire are seen jumping off the ferry into the water. Doug Carlin an ATF agent, played by Denzel Washington, is sent to investigate the scene, where he locates pieces from an explosive device. Later he hears a woman named Claire Kuchever, played by Paula Patton has washed up on shore badly burned, but was found about an hour before the explosion. Doug decides to go and see Claire's father and ask him some questions. Her father said she was supposed to pick him up from the airport but didn't show up. He said that he knew that she was supposed to meet someone the night before that her friend Beth wanted her to meet. Doug goes to Claire's house and discovers blood in the sink and some blood soaked cloth in the waste basket. He listens to the answer machine and he hears Beth calling wondering why she hasn't arrived yet. Claire answers but says she can't talk right now because she had someone with her. The next message he hears himself saying he is returning her call from a message he had received earlier at the office. Then as he walks by the refrigerator, plastic letters spell out “U CAN SAVE HER.” Doug brings all the information to Paul Pryzwarra, played by Val Kilmer who is a special agent for the FBI. Paul asks Doug to work with him on a newly formed investigating unit called Snow White which their first case is the ferry explosion. As Doug starts working with Paul he finds out that not only is this new unit special, but they have found a way to fold space back into itself. In other words, they have found a time window.
