Set in the world of science-fiction and fantasy, Gentlemen Broncos is a quirky comedy that tells the story of a teenage boy named Benjamin Purvis (Michael Angarano) who aspires to become a science-fiction writer. He attends a writing camp where he meets his idol, Ronald Chevalier (Jemaine Clement), a famous author who has lost his touch and is desperately looking for inspiration.

Benjamin decides to submit his manuscript - a story called Yeast Lords: The Bronco Years - to a contest held by Chevalier's publishing company, hoping to win the prize money and get his book published. However, Chevalier steals Benjamin's manuscript and turns it into a terrible movie adaptation called Brutus and Balzaak. Benjamin is devastated when he sees his beloved characters turned into campy, cringe-worthy versions of themselves.

Meanwhile, we also get to see the bizarre and hilarious world of Yeast Lords unfold on the big screen, with scenes featuring Sam Rockwell as Bronco, a heroic warrior battling a giant tentacled monster, and Jennifer Coolidge as Tabatha, a glamourous space queen who befriends Bronco.

As Benjamin struggles to come to terms with what's happened to his book, he also has to deal with the challenges of being a teenager - his parents' divorce, his awkward relationship with a girl at school, and his quirks and insecurities. He finds an unexpected ally in Dusty (Mike White), a fellow camper who becomes his friend and mentor.

Gentlemen Broncos is a hilarious and offbeat movie that pokes fun at the world of science-fiction and fantasy, as well as the creative process, fandom, and teenage angst. The film is directed by Jared Hess, who also helmed Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre, and features his signature deadpan humor and quirky characters.

Michael Angarano gives a heartfelt and endearing performance as the awkward and nerdy Benjamin, who is both vulnerable and determined. Jemaine Clement steals the show as the pompous and delusional Chevalier, who thinks he's a genius but is really just a hack.

The supporting cast also shines, with Mike White bringing his trademark charm and wit to the role of Dusty, and Jennifer Coolidge delivering a hilarious and over-the-top performance as Tabatha. Sam Rockwell is also a standout as Bronco, playing the character with a mix of macho bravado and goofy charm.

The movie's visual style and production design are also noteworthy, with the world of Yeast Lords coming to life in a colorful and imaginative way. The cheesy special effects and over-the-top costumes add to the film's charm and humor.

Overall, Gentlemen Broncos is a delightful and quirky movie that will appeal to fans of comedies and science-fiction alike. It's a tribute to the power of imagination, the joys of creativity, and the enduring appeal of nerdy fandom.

Gentlemen Broncos is a 2009 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 29 minutes. It has received mostly poor reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.1 and a MetaScore of 28.
