Masterminds is a movie that was released in 2016, directed by Jared Hess and produced by Lorne Michaels. It stars some of the talented names in Hollywood, including Zach Galifianakis, Kristen Wiig, and Owen Wilson. The film is based on true events that took place in the early 1990s in North Carolina where a group of inept criminals attempted to pull off a heist that went awry.

The movie follows David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis), a simple-minded armored car driver who is easily manipulated by his co-worker Kelly Campbell (Kristen Wiig), a woman with dreams of living the high life. David starts having an affair with Kelly, and she slowly convinces him to help her and her friend Steve Chambers (Owen Wilson) rob Loomis Fargo, the company that David works for.

Despite being easily led, David is steadfastly loyal to the people he trusts. A man of his word, he agrees to help the gang pull off the biggest heist in history, which would eventually become known as the Loomis Fargo Robbery. The plan is simple: Steve and Kelly will lure David into stealing millions of dollars from Loomis Fargo, and then they will all flee to Mexico and begin new lives.

However, the plan quickly falls apart due to the ineptitude of the robbers. As things start to spiral out of control, David finds himself on the run, pursued by hitmen who he believes are sent by Kelly and Steve to take him out. While on the run, David begins to realize that he was set up by his co-workers and that he has been duped into doing their bidding.

The film is full of twists and turns that keep the viewers on the edge of their seats. Jared Hess has done a brilliant job of portraying the characters as being funny yet unexpected. The supporting cast is equally impressive with appearances from Mary Elizabeth Ellis as Michelle Chambers, Steve's wife, and Kate McKinnon as Jandice, one of David's co-workers. Both these actresses do an excellent job and their performances add to the overall entertainment value of the movie.
