One of the main characters in the movie is a woman named Madeline Matheson. She is pregnant with a baby girl. She is eight months along. A tragic car accident occurs to Madeline, and her unborn daughter dies inside of her. Her husband Michael Matheson also dies in this tragic car accident. Madeline decides to carry the dead baby to term. She and her husband have been trying for a really long time to get pregnant. She really wants to deliver the baby, even though the doctors told her that the baby is dead.

Madeline is being seen by a midwife who agrees to deliver the stillbirth. Madeline's mother-in-law had wanted Madeline to see the family's obstetrician, Doctor Richard Sohn. She delivers the baby, but something shocking happens. The little girl comes back to life during Madeline's delivery. The miracle baby is named Grace. Grace is an unusual infant; she has a hunger for blood.
