Great Balls of Fire, the story of Jerry Lee Lewis, from his humble beginnings of sneaking off to listening to jazz to creating some the most controversial music of that time period. Growing up with Cousin Jimmy Swaggart a rising Pentecostal preacher, the two boys follow completely different paths, which lead to many conflicts in their relationship. While living with his bass player and Cousin J.W Brown, Jerry Lee meets and falls in love with his 13 year old cousin Myra and they get married without the consent of her parents. J.W. knows something is going on and goes thru Jerry’s coat and finds rice and a marriage license and goes berserk and sets out to shoot him. His agent Sam Phillips, stop J.W. and they work on reuniting the two while planning a trip to London which after playing is thought to make Jerry larger than Elvis. Upon entering the airport in London one reporter discovers the marriage and unveils the truth to everyone. Jerry’s career hits an all-time low as they are thrown out of England and turned against in the United States because of Myra’s age. Jerry then turns to alcohol and loses control of his marriage and career. Sam Phillips suggest Jerry apologizes to everyone and he resents everyone for trying to make him sign it. He becomes more violent with Myra until she tells him she is going to have a baby. He falls in her lap crying uncontrollably. During his comeback Jerry and Myra go to Jimmy Swaggarts church and when he was asked about receiving Christ in his heart, he tells them “If I am going to hell, I am going playing the piano” and walks out of the church with Myra on his arm. Myra gives birth to a son and Jerry continues to go around the country playing his music on the piano.
