The film is set in Ancient Greece and follows the exploits of Hercules, a demi-god who is the son of Zeus and a mortal woman. Hercules begins the story by escaping from the legion of sea pirates which had captured him in the previous film in the series. He is able to smash their boats to pieces after escaping from a golden carpet he was rolled up in. Upon swimming to shore, Hercules encounters a village that lives in constant fear of a terrible monster who eats their livestock and occasionally a townsperson. Hercules sets out to do battle with it.
