Steven Terence McQueen was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on March 24, 1930. When Steve was six months old, his father, who stunt piloted for a flying, barnstorming circus, deserted his wife and child. Steve's mother left him in Slater, Missouri to live with Uncle Claude and would come for him when he was 12. He spent five years on a ranch for troubled boys.

At 20, he came to New York and decided to become an actor to attract girls. He found he liked acting as a profession. He was bold and brash, competing with everybody he acted with.
