Donald Strachey is a private investigator based in Albany, New York. He frequently aids and collaborates with the Albany Police Department in solving heinous and perplexing cases. In the movie, "Ice Blues: A Donald Strachey Mystery," he is hired by a closeted homosexual politician to investigate a string of murders that the latter believes is connected to his lover.

Donald, played by actor Chad Allen, initially declines the proposal to investigate, but his partner and lover, Timmy, played by Sebastian Spence, convinces him to take the case. The politician, played by Mark Lutz, fears that he might be the next victim since a series of murders targeting gay men in the political elite have occurred in the state. The desperation and fear in the politician's voice pushes Don and Timmy deep into a web of intrigue and deviation that seems to extend beyond their initial scope.

The duo quickly realizes that this is no ordinary murder case. Still, it is a case that involves both the local and international gay community, and solving it might prevent a hate movement that is at the edge of boiling over. They uncover clues and mounds of dirt on the seemingly clean-cut politicians and Christian conservatives whose views towards homosexuality are draconian. Donald Strachey is quick to criticize the bigotry and homophobia exhibited by these people as he navigates the world of power and politics.

Despite constant threats and intimidation, Don Strachey, with the help of supportive law enforcement officers, does not desist until he unravels the conspiracy behind the murders. He soon finds himself caught in a sinister game that has far-reaching consequences that could change his life forever.

Ice Blues is a film that tackles numerous social issues, including homophobia, hatred, discrimination, and political conspiracy, in a mystery storyline that keeps the audience at the edge of their seats. Shot by Ron Oliver, the movie is well-paced, with excellent cinematography and a well-written script. The film portrays both the positive and negative sides of the gay community, particularly during the period of homophobia that preceded the gay rights movement of the 21st century.

The movie showcases Chad Allen's excellent portrayal of Donald Strachey, whose character is strong, open, and sympathetic. He ages the character’s image and develops its profile to showcase its depth and multidimensionality. This particular example portrays the challenges individuals with diverse sexual orientations and identities face daily as they navigate politics, society and outright discrimination, particularly in the United States.

Overall, Ice Blues is an excellent watch that will thrill fans of intrigue, mystery, and thrillers. The movie's depiction of politics and its intersection with the gay community is thought-provoking, evoking a sense of compassion and empathy from viewers while showcasing the untiring resilience of gay individuals against bigotry and hate.
