In Searching is a gripping thriller drama that was released in 2018, starring Jake Borelli, Jacob Grodnik, and Aley Underwood in the lead roles. The movie was directed by J.D. Dillard and written by Dillard and Alex Theurer. The film gained attention as it was entirely shot from the perspective of smartphones and computer screens, and presents a new perspective and look on how people use technology in their daily lives.

The movie follows David Kim (played by John Cho), a single father who tries to keep his teenage daughter, Margot (played by Michelle La), safe and protected in today's digital world. David is a widower and Margot’s only parent left. The story takes place in San Jose, California, and begins with David trying to contact Margot, who has gone missing from her college. As he is unable to reach her, David gets worried and contacts the police, who begin investigating her disappearance. As they search for Margot, David starts to unravel the many secrets his daughter has kept from him. He begins searching for clues on her computer and phone, and discovers that he knows very little about his daughter’s social life.

As he scours the internet for clues, David learns that his daughter was hiding many secrets from him, including attending a class that she had lied to him about, and having a hidden online life. As the search continues, David realizes that the clues he has found may not be as helpful as he thought they would be. He continues his search online, along with his brother Peter Kim (played by Joseph Lee), using Margot’s social media accounts, her chat messages, and email exchanges. David even hires a detective, Rosemary Vick (played by Debra Messing), to help him find her daughter. But, with every clue he finds, the case seems to become more complicated, and the facts of Margot’s disappearance become even more obscure.

The movie is a journey of a father's quest to find his missing daughter, and the obstacles he faces along the way. The story is presented entirely through screens and smartphones, which gives the movie a distinct style that sets it apart. The audience sees the investigation unfold from David’s computer screen, where he scrolls through Facetime calls from his daughter, reads text messages, and scrolls through Facebook and Instagram posts. This format gives the audience a glimpse into how easily someone's life can be taken over by technology, as well as how much it interferes in our lives.

Throughout the film, the pace is fast, and the audience is kept on their toes. Every new clue uncovered by David leads to a different set of possibilities and explanations behind Margot’s disappearance. The filmmakers have successfully created suspense, tension, and drama in a movie that presents technology as more than just a tool to use - it is a tool that defines us and how we interact with the world.

In Searching is a poignant, timely, and thought-provoking movie that explores the complexities of human relationships in the age of technology. It challenges our dependence on technology and the impact it has on our lives, while also addressing themes of loss, grief, and family. The direction and writing of the film are excellent, and the performances of the actors are on point. Overall, In Searching is a movie that builds suspense and tension effortlessly, leaving the audience wanting more as the story unfolds in real-time, in front of their eyes, through the screens of smartphones and computers.

In Searching is a 2018 adventure movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 30 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.2.
