Knockabout tells the tale of two brothers, Yipao and Taipao, who are both con artists at first but soon try to leave their old ways in order to attain a level of respect either of them had not known before. After being cheated out of their money by fellow criminal Jia Wu Dao, Yipao and Taipao attempt to fight him in order to retrieve their lost prize. After realizing that Jia Wu Dao is a skilled fighter, the brothers try to gain his level of skill by asking him to train them. However, not too long after they are trained by Jia Wu Dao, the two brothers come to a grim realization that their master is far more cruel than he initially appears.
