This French musical revolves around the choices and actions that four families are forced to take during the Second World War. Telling the stories of the families from the 1930s through the 1980s, the film sees how the war links the families and determines how their lives will be led. In Berlin, the life of pianist Karl is changed and scarred forever when he is chosen as a favorite performer of Hitler. In contrast, Anne Meyer finds herself bound for a concentration camp under Nazi rule and gives up her son, spending the rest of her life looking for him.
