Lucky Day is a 2019 crime-comedy movie directed by Roger Avary. The film stars Luke Bracey, Nina Dobrev, and Crispin Glover in leading roles. The storyline of the movie revolves around Red (Luke Bracey), a safecracker who just got released from prison after serving a six-year sentence. Red is hoping to start a new life with his wife Chloe (Nina Dobrev) and their daughter Beatrice. However, things take a turn for the worse when Pablo (Crispin Glover), a vengeful psychopath who Red had grievously injured in the past, comes looking for him.

Soon, Red finds himself in a chase with the psychotic Pablo, who’s hell-bent on revenge. As the two engage in a brutal game of cat and mouse, Red’s world keeps getting crazier with each passing moment. As his life and the lives of those around him spiral out of control, Red must find a way out and make the right choices to protect his family and loved ones.

The movie is set in Los Angeles and covers a span of twenty-four hours, giving it a fast-paced feel throughout. The storyline of Lucky Day is quite straightforward, with a primary focus on the action and comedy elements of the story.

The director Roger Avary, who is most known for writing the script of Pulp Fiction, keeps the narrative fresh with his innovative style of filmmaking. The use of split screens, quick cuts, and wry humor keeps the viewers engaged and entertained.

The lead actors in the film do an exceptional job with their respective roles. Luke Bracey delivers a compelling performance as Red - the ex-con who's trying to rebuild his life. His acting is authentic and raw, and he brings a sense of vulnerability and depth to the character. Nina Dobrev, as Chloe, is charming and refreshing in her role. Although her part is relatively brief, she manages to leave a memorable impact on the audience. Crispin Glover shines in his portrayal of the unhinged and unpredictable Pablo. His eccentricity takes the character to another level, and his portrayal is both frightening and hilarious.

The supporting cast in the movie features some recognizable faces, including Clé Bennett, David Hewlett, and Tomer Sisley. They all do an excellent job of playing their respective roles.

The soundtrack of Lucky Day is a mix of various genres, including rock, pop, and classical pieces. The music adds to the overall atmosphere of the film and complements the visuals quite well.

In terms of the genre, Lucky Day is a crime-comedy, and it does justice to both elements. The action scenes are well-choreographed, and the comedic moments are genuinely funny. There are a few scenes that are over the top, but they fit in well with the overall tone of the movie.

Overall, Lucky Day is a thoroughly entertaining movie that offers a blend of humor, action, and suspense. The characters are quirky and lovable, and the plot is engaging enough to keep the audience invested until the end. Roger Avary has done an exceptional job, with his directorial skills shining through in every frame. The performances of the lead cast are top-notch, and the soundtrack is impressive.
