Man on a Ledge is a 2012 psychological thriller film directed by Asger Leth. Nick Cassidy played by Sam Worthington gets a room on the 21st floor at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York under the name of Walker. He gets room service to bring him a nice meal, and then steps out the window onto the ledge. People on the street immediately notice him on the ledge, which draws a very big crowd and police. Jack Dougherty played by Edward Burns begins to try and talk to Nick but says he will only talk with Lydia Mercer played by Elizabeth Bank who is a negotiator. Lydia has been on leave because a month earlier a depressed policeman jumped from the Brooklyn Bridge and she was unable to save him. Lydia arrives at the hotel, and she and Nick get comfortable talking. She offers Nick to share her last cigarette with her, and manages to get fingerprints. She then finds out that Nick is an ex-cop that was arrested for stealing a $40 million dollar diamond from David Englander played by Ed Harris. Nick was serving a 25-year sentence, when he was allowed to attend his father’s funeral a month earlier. At the end of the funeral he and his brother get into an argument and Nick manages to break free from the guards. Nick maintains his innocence saying that David Englander employed cops to protect his multi-floor jewelry business. He says that David framed him so he could get the insurance money. In between talking to Lydia, Nick is communicating with his brother through an earpiece, who is across the street in David Englander’s building. Nick’s brother Joey, played by Jamie Bell and his girlfriend, Angie played by Genesis Rodriguez, plan to really steal the $40 million dollar diamond, to prove that Nick was innocent all along. Nick continues to stay out on the ledge to distract everyone from across the street.
