Midnight Crossing is a 1988 action adventure film about a pair of couples who set sail to find a cache of $1 million that was stashed somewhere between Miami and Cuba. Morley Barton (Daniel J. Travanti) is a former sailor in the U.S. Navy who hides the money back in 1959 after Fidel Castro overthrows the Cuban government. Over the years, Morley was unable to retrieve the money due to Cuba and U.S. relations. Morley (Daniel J. Travanti) tells charter boat captain Jeff Schubb (John Laughlin) about his bounty and intent to go back and find it. Jeff is eager to help because his business isn't very lucrative these days, and Morley is offering to split the money with Jeff. So Morley, along with his visually impaired wife Helen (Fay Dunaway), Jeff, and his wife Alexa (Kim Cattrall) set sail to find the money. Morley is Alexa's boss, and they are also having a secret affair. Unbeknownst to Helen and Jeff, Morley and Alexa have already made plans to run away together once the money is found. As the couples approach the area, they realize that finding the money is easier said than done. Morley soon finds that members of the Cuban military and shady government officials have gotten wind of the hidden money and have no plans of giving it up. Another obstacle is that local pirates are sniffing about to find the missing loot. The couples must now evade and outwit several dangerous individuals in the pursuit. Several plot twists reveal that things are not as they seem to be within the group. Deceit, greed, and mistrust soon forms cracks within alliances. Each individual must attempt to reach their objective or allow lust and backstabbing to be their undoing.
