Our Family Wedding is a 2010 romantic comedy about the upcoming nuptials between an African-American medical student and a Mexican American law student whose family's have never met. Recent Columbia Medical School graduate Marcus Boyd (Lance Gross) and his fiance Lucia Ramirez (America Feriera), a recent law school dropout, have been living together for the past two years, and plan on getting married before they leave for Marcus' job in Laos. The couple plan a pre-wedding dinner so the families can meet. Before the dinner, Marcus' father, Bradford (Forest Whitaker), and Lucia's father, Miguel Ramirez (Carlos Mencia), have a chance meeting when Miguel's car gets towed. The encounter ends with name calling and insults. When the guests arrive at the restaurant for dinner, the fathers are shocked to learn that their children are engaged. Brad and Miguel's disdain for each other is clear. During the dinner, Lucia announces her intentions of forgoing law school to teach immigrants. Miguel quickly adopts the stereotypical idea that his daughter will be taking care of man who isn't working, as Marcus' job with Doctors Without Borders is largely volunteer. Miguel's feelings and lack of support from his fiance forces him to call off the wedding. Brad, who also has misgivings about Miguel supports Brad's decision. As the wedding plans are placed on haitus, both Marcus and Lucia are forced to deal with aggressive, yet well meaning family members. Neither Miguel or Brad seem to be able to get past their own mutual dislike for one another to recognize that their children are truly in love. Lucia's sister, Isabel (Anjeleah Johnson), is finally able to orchestrate a reconciliation between her sister and Marcus. Both Brad and Miguel are also finally able to set aside their differences and be happy for their children. The wedding finally takes goes on and turns into a celebration of both cultures.
