Set in a rural California town, this story centers around a year in the odd life of garage mechanic George Malley (played by John Travolta). George is strangely (with the appearance of lights in the sky) and suddenly gifted with powers of telekinesis and a hyper genius intellect. It is a tale that weaves love, wonder and understanding with the mistrust and fear that can sometimes cause a rift between everyday people. With Lace (played by Kyra Sedgwick) as a single mother and reluctant love interest, Doc (played by Robert Duvall) and his best friend Nate (played by Forest Whitaker), we follow a fantastical story that is woven to illustrate how little we know and how much there is to discover within all of us. From learning a foreign language in a single car ride to sensing seismic activity and playing chess like a pro, George's new character strikes fear and mistrust of the unknown into everyone except Lace, Doc and Nate. Not to be left out, the FBI make a small appearance with a token role of snooping out suspicious activity. In short, it is an eloquent journey of love, self-discovery and the acceptance of the beauty of life.
