In Post Grad Alexis Bledel plays Ryden Malby, a girl who graduates from college with high expectations of the opportunities and lifestyle she thinks she’s earned only to crash against what’s actually waiting for her in the real world. The 2009 film is rated PG-13 and was directed by Vicky Jenson and written by Kelly Fremont. It co-stars Michael Keaton, Jane Lynch, Bobby Coleman and Carol Burnett as the rest of the warm, quirky Malby clan. After earning her English degree with high honors and much optimism, Ryden frankly expects to land a promising job at her favorite publishing house. She’s deflated when faced with the limited job opportunities that actually exist in 2009. She’s forced to backtrack her grand plans, like renting an apartment to be closer to a job she didn’t have yet. After her old school rival (Catherine Reitman) scoops up that dream job Ryden works her way down the available job ladder with little success and eventually moves back in with her family. The key to solving her the emotional side of her quarter life crisis might be the support of her long suffering best male friend Adam (Zach Gilford) and her family, none of whom think Ryden should restricting her future to the strict path she decided on before she even went to college. Meanwhile, Adam would like to be more than a friend and a shoulder to cry on. Ryden ignores him in favor of David, her gorgeous next door neighbor (Rodrigo Santoro) who’s attentions toward her include getting her a job assisting him in his lucrative but not entirely stable work directing infomercials. After a lifetime of over-planning her future Ryden has to take the involuntary time off to decide if her cherished plans are what she really wants.
