Pusher II: With Blood On My Hands is a Danish crime drama film released in 2004. It is the second installment in the Pusher trilogy and is directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. The movie is known for its realistic portrayal of the gritty criminal underworld of Copenhagen. The movie picks up where the first installment ended, but this time we follow the story of Tonny (played by Mads Mikkelsen), a low-level criminal looking to make a name for himself. Tonny has just been released from prison and is eager to prove himself to his abusive and disapproving gangster father. In the meantime, he reconnects with his ex-girlfriend and tries to earn her forgiveness for his past mistakes.
Tonny's life takes a turn for the worse when he learns that he has a son, whom he has never met. Determined to be a good father, Tonny tries to turn his life around and go legit. However, his criminal past catches up to him and he finds himself back in the world of drugs, violence, and gang wars.
As Tonny gets deeper into the criminal underworld, he is forced to confront his own demons, including his relationship with his father and his struggles with addiction. The movie does an excellent job of depicting the realities of addiction and how it can destroy relationships, jobs, and lives.
The film's director, Nicolas Winding Refn, is known for his stylized violence and atmospheric visuals. Pusher II is no exception, as the movie is shot in a dark and gritty style that perfectly captures the mood of Copenhagen's criminal underworld. The use of handheld cameras and close-ups gives the movie an intimate and claustrophobic feel, as if the audience is a part of Tonny's world.
Mads Mikkelsen's performance as Tonny is outstanding. He brings a vulnerability and sympathy to the character that makes the audience root for him, despite his criminal past. Tonny is not a typical "bad guy," but rather a man who is trying to do the right thing in a world that constantly pulls him back into darkness. Mikkelsen's portrayal of Tonny earned him a Best Actor award at the Bodil Awards in Denmark.
The rest of the cast, including Kim Bodnia as Tonny's father and Leif Sylvester Petersen as Tonny's friend and partner-in-crime, give strong performances as well. The movie's characters are complex and intriguing, as they navigate the morally ambiguous world of crime and punishment.
Pusher II: With Blood On My Hands is a gripping and intense crime drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It explores themes of family, addiction, and redemption, all set against the backdrop of Copenhagen's criminal underworld. The movie's raw and realistic portrayal of violence and drug use may not be for everyone, but fans of gritty crime dramas will surely appreciate it.
Pusher II: With Blood On My Hands is a 2006 action & adventure movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
