"Reuben, Reuben" is a comedy, drama, and romantic tale that follows the exploits of a boozing womanizing poet. Gowan McGland is a half Scottish and half Irish poet who has made a name for himself in certain circles. His wife, who knows how her husband is, has been commissioned to write his biography. He makes his money on poetry speaking tours. He tends to sleep with married women and relies on the kindness of those who come to hear him talk. He meets a woman named Geneva Spofford with whom he falls in love with. Her grandfather’s sheepdog is named Reuben. The dog plays a part in how the story ends.
