Holly Richardson married into a prominent family where the mother-in-law never approved of her son's choice of a bride. When Holly becomes involved in a scandal, she is forced by her mother-in-law to leave the family, including her young daughter, and spare them embarrassment. It's been twenty years and Holly has been keeping track of her daughter who is now a grown woman. She has also been involved in an abusive relationship. When the boyfriend is found dead, Holly is charged with the murder. For the daughter, she is completely unaware of her relationship to the woman accused of this crime.
