Doing Life is a 1986 made-for-TV movie that follows the story of Jerry Rosenberg, a man who was wrongly convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison. The film stars Tony Danza as Rosenberg, Jon DeVries as his attorney, and Alvin Epstein as his father. Jerry Rosenberg is a young man living in New York City in the 1960s. He is arrested along with two others for the murder of two police officers during a botched robbery. Despite protesting his innocence, Jerry is tried and convicted and sent to prison for life without the possibility of parole.

At first, Jerry is resigned to his fate and has little hope of ever being released from prison. However, he is spurred into action by his father, who visits him regularly and encourages him to continue fighting for his freedom. With the help of his attorney, Jerry starts to appeal his case, arguing that he was wrongly convicted and that the real killer is still at large.

Over the course of the film, we see Jerry struggle with life behind bars. He is frequently subjected to violence and abuse from other inmates and struggles with the loneliness of being separated from his family and friends. However, he remains determined to prove his innocence and clear his name.

As Jerry's appeals progress, he begins to uncover new evidence that supports his case. With the help of his lawyer, he tracks down witnesses who saw the real killer and works to build a case for his release. However, his efforts are frequently frustrated by a corrupt justice system that seems more interested in punishing him for his crime than in seeking justice.

Despite the many setbacks he faces, Jerry remains determined to fight for his freedom. Along the way, he gains the support of other inmates who come to see him as a symbol of hope for their own situations. Eventually, Jerry's persistence pays off, and he is granted a new trial that leads to his eventual release.

Doing Life is a powerful and moving film that explores themes of justice, redemption, and perseverance. Tony Danza delivers a standout performance as Jerry Rosenberg, conveying the character's pain, frustration, and determination with nuance and authenticity. Meanwhile, Jon DeVries brings a quiet intensity to his role as Jerry's attorney, portraying a man who is deeply committed to the cause of justice despite the many obstacles he faces.

At its core, Doing Life is a story about the human capacity for resilience in the face of struggle. It is a testament to the power of hope and faith in oneself, even when the odds seem insurmountable. With its complex characters, gripping plot, and emotional depth, this film is a must-see for anyone who appreciates great storytelling and powerful performances.
