  • A lady receives an appalling shock when a cardboard box containing two severed human ears is delivered to her one day. She promptly consults Sherlock Holmes who investigates with Dr. Watson's help.Despite the police believing that it is a sick practical joke, Holmes takes the matter very seriously and eventually uncovers a violent crime which is the result of sibling rivalry, hatred and intense jealousy.

  • A historic jewel called the Mazarin Stone has had many strange adventures over the centuries. Holmes and Watson are called in when the famous stone finds itself in the news again.Holmes is away pursuing a different matter in Scotland when the affair of the Mazarin Stone is first introduced, so Watson enlists the aid of Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock Holmes' brother to assist him in enquiring into this matter.

  • The famous writer Professor Coram has engaged a young man as secretary. When the young man is stabbed to death one day the local police are baffled and call in Holmes who on this occasion is assisted by his brother Mycroft. The only clues they have are the young man's dying words and a pair of pince nez found clutched in his hand.Holmes and his brother Mycroft visit Professor Coram and make enquiries.

  • Victor Savage is a cousin of Culverton Smith, a doctor who specialises in tropical medicine. In spite of the fact that Savage has a wife and children, all of his property has been entailed to Culverton Smith in the event of Savage's death.Culverton Smith deliberately sets out to undermine Victor Savage, getting him addicted to drugs and thus making him extremely vulnerable, and when Savage suddenly becomes ill and dies of a rare tropical disease Holmes and Watson are extremely suspicious. Savage's wife and children are turned out of their home by Culverton Smith almost immediately, and Watson is particularly determined to see matters put right. Unfortunately there is no proof, so Holmes uses a unique method of extracting the truth from Culverton Smith.

Mason is very concerned about his employer's behaviour towards his sister. He has taken her pet spaniel away from her and has taken to visiting a ruined crypt of a night time. Human bones have also been found in the furnace at Shoscombe and Mason is worried about changes in Lady Beatrice's behaviour. Mason suspects that the brother and sister have had a major falling out.Holmes and Watson visit Shoscombe under the guise of anglers and discover that Lady Beatrice's spaniel Jasper has been given to the owner of the local inn. Holmes takes Jasper for a walk and when Lady Beatrice appears in her carriage he releases the dog who is at first enthusiastic to see his beloved mistress, but then retreats in confusion.Ultimately Holmes solves the case - and justice is again tempered with mercy.

  • Grace Dunbar worked as a governess for J. Neil Gibson and his exotic wife, Maria. When a relationship developed between the English born governess and J. Neil Gibson, Maria Gibson became extremely jealous and violent in mind, harbouring feelings of intense hatred towards the governess and also for her husband.When Maria's body is found on Thor Bridge all the evidence points to Grace Dunbar's guilt, and she is found guilty of murder and sentenced to death. Only Holmes's brilliant mind can save an innocent woman from the gallows but he has very little time in which to do it.
